thinking about help in following our path

August 4, 2011

Over in the Heartland, Mark told me once that keeping this stuff in my head is not very reproducible. That spoke to me. So in the posts below, I am thinking my way through what I consider to be helpful stuff in following Jesus.

This is, as of this moment, more an outline than anything else. An outline of thoughts to keep us moving along our path.

Our path. This implies choosing. So if you are of a mind to believe that God decides every thing for you, you might look elsewhere. For I, the writer, believe firmly in our ability to choose. Indeed, as Dallas Willard suggests, we measure character by the long range examination of choices (Renovation of the Heart). C. S. Lewis suggested that God was “willing to take a risk” (Mere) about our choices because real love is not forced, it is chosen. This is real love. In weddings, I talk about commitment that is beyond feelings, it is about choice and when the feelings are other than love, choose to go to Godly counsel.

So, I want to think about choosing to follow Jesus. Let’s set out on the path of following Him in the ideas that follow.
